Silverwashed Fritillary - Argynnis paphia

I’m afraid I’ve not had much time for photography or TN lately but here is a fairly recent capture of a Fritillary. This is a species that is found by the edge of forests and in forest clearings where its food plant, Viola, is found. It’s a large Fritillary with a wingspan of between 53-65 mm. It is recognised by the dark bands on its bright orange upper wings and the silver streaks on the underside of the hind wings.

Paphia is the female form of Paphos, a town in northern Cyprus overlooking the sea where the goddess Aphrodite rose from the waves.

Sw. name – ’Silverstreckad Pärlemorfjäril’

Hallo Ulla
Thanks for sharing two different viewpoints of this beautiful Silverwashed Fritillary. I especially appreciate the 2nd image as it is the 1st time I have seen the outer wings of this beautiful butterfly and I must admit I am astound by the beautiful detail. It reminds me of the colours of a pearl, this just being a bit darker. I like both images but stick to no 2 as it is brand new to me. I like the composition and the point of view. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hi Ulla,

A wonderful post showing the two views of this lovely butterfly. I especially appreciate seeing the silver wing - something I have never seen before. Both pictures are excellent with fine colors, clarity and composition.

Hello Ulla,
Great "two for one" today! ... This is an excellent way to document this species, providing views with closed and spread wings at time. Good job! With good color and proper lighting. I like the background achieved, it a background as DSLR camera!
Regards, have a nice week, TFS, Jesús

Dear Ulla!

We have at least one thing in common: not enough time for TN! I hope that the day I can stop working (maybe in 3 years), I will find more time...

I like your simple, yet very pleasant and effective composition very much. The pedagogical aspect is very present and allows the viewer to get a fine impression of this beautiful butterfly. The Centaury and the Fritillary form a superb couple!

Kind regards

Markus

P.S. Oh, I realize only now I haven't got any smilies left. So let me send you a friendly kiss instead...

:-)

I'll check my smily-stock before the post next time, I promise...

I really enjoyed your composition and all of it's two shooting.
At least he did not disagree. Is sure to have the case that we take a picture.
Beautiful shot and great idea, now I'm going to like that.
