On my Turkey travels:
Kapadokya is the fairy land of Turkey. I squeezed myself and my bicycle through several tight valleys and marvelled about the varied sights all day long. Here it is Kizılšukur vadisi, the "Red valley" near Uchisar. Early in the morning is a good time for photography.

The whole area of Kapadokya (about 10'000 km2 in size ) is of Tertiary volcanic origin. 7 volcanoes formed along a tectonic suture (Inner Tauride suture), which resulted from the push of the Arabian tectonic plate to the Anatolian plate. The volcanoes spewed out lava and ashes for a long time. Two of the best known volcanoes (now extinct) are Ercyes dağı (3'916 m a.s.l.) near Kayseri and Hasan dağı (3'268 m a.s.l.) near Aksaray. The volcanic ashes were compressed into solid layers of tufa. Their mineral content varies and so does the color. Erosion by rain and wind shaped the structures visible on the image.

I have to disappoint Bayram (boreocypriensis): no lizards on that morning!

Hallo Dieter!

As liebs GrŘessli

Hi Dietrich!
Beautiful place, capturing perfectly!
Sincerely, Robert

Dear Dieter,
Very impressive formations guiding the viewers' eyes to the different layers of strata in the background.

I gather from your informative notes, that you took this photo in the early morning. The little bit of sun lightening the foreground creates a nice 3D effect!

Thanks for bringing to us this interesting landscape.
Have a good week
Kind Regards
