Laudakia stellio cypriaca (Spiny Lizard, Starred Agama or Hardun) [in Cyp. Turk. Gurkuda, Turk: Dikenli Keler]

After a daily break:), today I am presenting an old Cypriot male Gurkuda , indeed resembling a “grandfather”:) stretched out on a rock from frontal POV. We meet him at the eastern tip of the Karpas peninsula near the Kleides islands (Cape Apostolos Andreas or Cape Zafer). I also attached an another old male from Salamis ruins to show its total appearance.

TFL and Have a nice weekend!

The Cypriotic agama (L. s. cypriaca) is characterized mainly by its long tail [Tail length reported on the snout-vent distance (SVL) ranges from 1.53-1.92, averaging 1.73. In other subspecies, this relation rarely exceeds 1.6.]. Finger and toes are long [19-22 subdigital scales under the 3rd finger, 22-28 under 4th toe]. In the dorsal scale arrangement, Cypriotic Spiny lizard resembles the nominotypic form. The small scales of the chin, especially in the region of the gular fold, are strongly spinose and in elder specimens there is a redish coloration on both head and body.

You could reach more detailed info on the species and its subspecies from this link.

Great capture of this handsome grandfather looking at you! Very nice colours and composition. I found Karpas peninsula maybe the most interesting place in Northern Cyprus, for nature and not only for gurkudas, but also for birds, insects, plants, even on the dry season. I would like to go there again for a fews days and make camping there :). Have a nice day MF!

yanaklari dusmus bunun dayi:) haklisin yasli bir dede gibi durmus.. cık guzel olmus dayi. Eline saglik.
Londra'dan kucak dolusu sevgiler.

Selam my dear friend,
What beautiful angle of view. Very captured shot of this spiny lizard. Excellent sharp details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing. Have a nice weekend....

Wonderful portrait, nice & sharp Bayram. Like the comp and the way the reptiles head's cocked there..He's giving ya the evil eye ;-)
I especially like this POV, it makes the shot great!
Have a nice weekend :)

Bu vakur duruşlu Kıbrıs beyefendisini bütün ağırlığıyla görüntülemişsiniz. Somurtkanlığı yılların yorgunluğundan olsa gerek. :)) Galiba cypriaca'da gular bölgede mozaik desen yok. Kaprisli leydide de yoktu. Emeğinize sağlık.

Merhaba NF Prof. Bayram,
such a nice expression from the lizard. The sharpness is as usual very splendid. how the grinning and the stretching catch the view.
The similar colour bakground is so lively and beautiful.
Your lizard collection is so outstanding.

Hi little bro Bayram,

what a cute reptiles.
this one looks so lovely away, great details and nice bg.
fine colours.

Simplemente imperesionante!

Türün bu açıdan görünümü, Avustralya kökenli Sakallı Ejder'i anımsatıyor.
Çok şahane çekim Üstad! Elinize sağlık.

Hello Bayram,
Another really great view of a lovely Hardun taken from a low POV. Fantastic details and I love the way it is watching you with tilted head! Beautiful warm colours too and very well composed.
TFS and best regards, Ulla

Sevgili Merhaba Bayram
Dear Professor Bayram
Obviously you are on the top mensa level together with the other geni who do not need sleep!
You have been truly prolific on TrekNature since I last looked at your portfolio and writing lots of critiques as well. Besides your teaching duties , no sleeping time left.

(Unfortunately I am really squeezed for time until our move to another town is finished.)

The total attitude of this animal transmits relaxation and observation of you. I often wonder, who watches whom, when I encounter this sort of scene. Particularely in the Galapagos, when I sat on the ground - the animals walking up my legs and remaining on my lap listening to my voice...

The spines will serve this animal well on the sharp (lava like) rock.

Thank you for all the interesting notes - which together with the splendid photo - are again a lesson about the versatile reptiles.

Enjoy your evening
Kendine iyi bak!
