Emperor Dragonfly (Anax imperator)

This is my first dragonfly that I got. I am very pleased to get it in the air. I know itís not nearly as nice as some of the in air posts Iíve seen here, but itís mine and I love it. Hope you like it too.

Very large dragonfly. Itís wingspan on average 105mm, with sky blue abdomen and a green thorax. Females closely resemble males. Frequently preys on other dragonflies. Common near pools, streams and stagnant water. Their nymphs are extremely large (55mm).

Now that I know where to get them I will frequent the spot more often.

Gerhard, Yes I like it too! Good color. I tried getting lucky the other day in my backyard shooting Dragons in flight the same day I shot some Humingbirds in flight with shutter priority. I was counting on them getting close enough, and they did a few times but even with continous AF no luck..:-((

Today I was fishing. And every time there was that chaser, in front of me. I got my camera, and When I was ready for the photo the chaser was away.

So I like your freesing first dragonfly gerhard. Gefeliciteerd. En het resultaat is erg goed.

I am amazed, we are getting used to see this kind of pics, and they are very difficult to obtain. Very good work, Gerhard.

Yes good first try Gerhard. Not an easy target I would imagine. I hopefully next year will try for such shots myself as these insects are amazing. Well done.

It may not be the greatest, but its very good. I'm sure you spent a long time with many blurred shots before got this one. I love the opposing direction of the wing pairs, again not easy to capture (one pair up, one pair down). I love looking at these in-flight shots on TN, I hope you get some more to share with us.

Well its as good as any in flight shots I have gerhard, well seen against the plain BG of the water.
it certainly looks like the Emperor dragonfly we get, nice one

Es realmente muy buena Gerhard, tal vez la agudeza no esperfecta, pero el detalle de las alas, y mŠs teniendo en cuenta que es en vuelo ameritan su publicacion.
Bravo!.

It is really very good Gerhard, perhaps the sharpness is not perfect, but the detail of the wings, and more considering than it is in flight deserve its publication.
Bravo!.

Excellent capture even though it lacks sharpness ... well, it is a moving target. I'm surprised it's your first dragonfly picture. I look forward to seeing more.
