[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On my Valais excursions:

when I was with Anne (anel) and Peter (batu) on the Moosalp I wondered why the two showed me this marvelous butterfly without trying to get a shot at it themselves. But I discovered later that both had mounted already excellent pictures of this species on TN. So my turn now: it is the Alpine heath (Lepidoptera; Satyridae; Coenonympha gardetta De Prunner 1798; Alpen- Wiesenvögelchen; le Satyrion) sitting on Juniperus communis.

The species occurs at higher altitudes in the Massiv central (France), the Alps , Crna Gora and Bjeshkët e Namuna (Albania).

In the workshop area I include an improved version (alleviating the effect of the flash). Judge for yourself.

Hello Dietrich,
A very nice detailed close capture of this Coenonympha species, the Alpine Heath. Everything in my opinion is excellent in this image though I feel the use of flash sometimes gives a 'night-time effect', which is fine if the insect is nocturnal.
Thanks and knid regards,
Ivan

Hello Dietrich,
This is a real beauty and you got a brilliant macro to show it here! Excellent use of the flash showing fantastic details and wonderful natural colours. I find the framing a little bit tight but it is still a great capture!

Lieber Dieter,
Anne

Hallo Dietrich,
a fantastic picture of Coenonympha gardetta, very good sharpness and marvellous bright colours, a very nice close composition

Best regards

It's a beautiful little b-fly Dietrich, fine details..
I like this version best because of the subjects contrast to BG.
By reducing the shadow BG in your WS, you have radically altered the image IMHO.
The BG now becomes a negative.
The flash effect is minimal/acceptable here.
Have a great weekend!
