Oriental Tree Frog is a small and delicate frog, reaching a body length of around 5 cm, where females are usually larger than males. Typically, fingers and toes end in wide, disc shaped adhesive pads. Males have a large vocal sac beneath the chin. The dorsum is usually a bright green, sometimes changing to gray, yellowish or blackish, sometimes with dark colored small spots. A dark stripe, which begins in front of the eye, extends through the tympanic membrane, and laterally along flanks to the inguinal area, and there forms a spur-like branch anterodorsally. The belly is whitish or slightly yellowish.

The former race of Hyla arborea orientalis have been revocated and it is currently treated as full species based on both mithochondrial and nuclear DNA analyses recently (Stöck et al., 2008).Oriental Tree Frog is distributed in extremely eastern parts of Europe (e.g. Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova & Ukraine) and also W and N Anatolia.

It is generally quite similar to H. arborea (European Tree Frog) and its closely related H. savignyi (=H. arborea savignyi))(Levantine Tree Frog). Its biology is quite similar to Levantine tree frog which I uploaded from Syria a few posts before. You can find more detailed info in one of my previous posts.

Merhaba Bayram,
It is not often we see the ventral aspect of Hyla arborea and you have taken a superb shot of this ssp orientalis with fine sharpness, natural colours and set in a great composition in this frame-filling image. The lighting is great and I like the filling of the vocal sack suggesting that he is about to call!
Thanks and have a great day MF,

Hello Bayram
The quality of detail is astonishing,
she is very cute, when you think that some in France, eat their thighs ...
Thank you for the excellent photographic work, and acrobatic.

Canim kardesim.

so, that's it... the oriental... nice capture...

Teşekkürler arkadaşım Bayram
for a splendid series of photos of the Oriental Tree/Green Frog!

You are brave to stand underneath the animal. May be the Turkish Tree Frogs behave better than the South African: whenever I stood underneath a Tree Frog, it urinated on me... :-))

I am amazed how big the suckers are, and they are transparent! The vivid green of the legs is quite luminous.

I wonder what the skin fold below the voice sac is for?

I always thought your photos were perfect - but you seem to be able to get even better! (Is this coming with ripening age?:-)) But seriously, this trip seems to bring out your best qualities, and I am really enjoying the fruit i.e. all three images.

Your detailed notes are very interesting.

İyi geceler

hah:) wikipediadan bilgi bulup, emeği görmezden gelen, haliyle saygıyı da hakketmeyenlere kapak olacak bir sunum olmuş.
Saygılarımla hocam.

Merhaba MF Prof. Bayram,
this is an exciting v iew from below. It gives such an exciting feeling. you have given an excellent emphasis on its skin texture and body colours.
Well seen in superb details and I like the eye very much.
The golden shine is so exciting.

Dear little brother,
Obviously in your part of the world the frogs are more cultured than in South Africa!
Many times did I stand underneath a tree frog - and before I clicked - got my head and shoulders wet... May be that's good against wrinkles..:-)

I have added this photo to my theme "Frogs"
Thanks for sharing.
Warm Greetings from the Tzaneen Dam in Limpopo, South Africa
