Hi thank you for watching!

Rock Prarmigan (Lagopus mutus)lives at high rocky slopes and Tundra, males are distinguished from willow tarmigan by the black line that goes from the bill through the eye. As the picture was taken early on the summer this male was in an inbetween molt between the winter plumage (withe) and the summer one (brown).

This picture was taken at the top of Gros Morne mountain, around 800m, this Ptarmigans population was "trapped" in the island after the glaicers receded during the lest of the last Ice age. they will go lower in the mountain during winter, but stay at the top during summer.

Hope you like it!

Simon

yes, of course. I like it very much. it is wonderful capture of very pretty Lagopus species, Simon.
Even, when I saw exif data, it is amazing result with a compact camera and 110mm focal length.
sharp details, POV/DOF, and exposure perfect. white balance, colors, blurry BG and composition with mosses excellent. awesome work indeed. congratulations. TFS.
best wishes
Ahmet

Hello Simon,
What a special place to make photos, Newfoundland. Never been there.
Very nice photo in exciting contrasting colours, very good sharpness and a good composition. The dark BG is splendid here. The red eyebrow is eye catching.
Regards,
Peter

Hallo Simon
I think this bird could not hide away even if it wanted to, due to that lovely bright red patch of feathers above its eye. The Rock Prarmigan is indeed a striking bird with its lovely combination of colours that compliment each other so well. The plumage is beautifully seen. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Anna
