Dear TN friends,

As Krzysztof posted today his picture of Neptis rivularis showing the upper side of its wings, I will show the lower side of the very same individual :-)

Neptis rivularis - Hungarian Glider
Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Limenitidinae

Wingspan: 44-54mm
Catterpillar host plant: Spiraea salicifolia
Habitat: deciduous and mixed forests
Similar species: N. sappho

The common names of many species and genera of Limenitidinae reference military ranks or – namely the Adoliadini – titles of nobility (e.g., count, duke, earl, and marquis), in reference to these butterflies' large size, bold pattern and dashing flight. In particular, the light stripe running lengthwise across the wings of many Limenitidini has reminded earlier authors of officers' (e.g. admiral, commander, commodore) shoulder marks and epaulets.

Piekna fota. Zwlaszcza ze ten stwor byl dosyc trudny do pstrykniecia i nie chcial za bardzo pozowac. Ladnie widac kolory na spodzie skrzydel, ostrosc jest swietna a wszystko na ladnym tle

Hello Michal,
Lovely butterfly with unusual orange tones. Details are perfect on the butterfly but also on the flower. Nice background too. A perfect capture! Best regards,

nice portrait, TFS Ori

Hi Michal, this is a top of perfection,a very impressive close up whit the best quality of sharpness, light and colors..and a very interesting specie too,a nice gift to the butterflies fans like me!Thanks for share, have a nice Sunday,LUCIANO.

Hi Michal,
I was already interested in the picture of Krzysztof, I look with pleasure at the same butterfly individual from the Michal perspective! interesting: you used a flash, this gives the picture excellent DOF and contrast. As for the dark background, a typical result of the flash, it could be brightened up somewhat in PS . What a gorgeous butterfly, just awesome!
Best regards
