Polyommatus daphnis (=Meleageria daphnis) (Meleager’s Blue) [in Turk. Çokgözlü Dafnis] (Male)

After a female uploading, today a male Meleager’s Blue from my photographic chest which I’ve captured during my trip to Black Sea 2009 trip in Kelkit (Gümüşhane). I also attached an additional workshop from opposite POV and different light way!

TFL and Cheers,

Meleager’s Blue is a medium-sized butterfly with a wingspan of 36-38 (mostly 15-20, at least in Turkey) mm.

The scalloped hindwings are very distinctive feature in this species. The male upperside is bright powder blue, the females is bordered with dark brown and tends to be more heavily marked on the underside. Both sexes are large.

It is found in S. Europe, Turkey, Middle East (Syria, Lebanon), Iran, Caucasus and South Urals. The adult butterflies begin to emerge in June and are on the wing until the end of Sepmtember in one generation (i.e. univoltine). However, in Turkey there are two flight period: it flies in the months of June and July in Western parts, whereas in Eastern parts are on the wing in Jully and September.

The larval host-plants is Coronilla species. Eggs laid on leaves upon which larva feed. In hot, dry situations, plants heavily shaded by rocks or bushes are usually prefered for oviposition. Hibernates as an egg or small larva: attended by some ant species (such as Lasius, Formica and Tapinoma species). Meleager’s Blue observed in grassy or bushy places, usually on limestone/base-rich substrates from 200 m to 1700 m.

A bit too shallow dept of field in my opinion dear friend Bayram! Often they say the eyes of the butterfly are their wings! When you live them out of focus, ... you know, somehow you are losing the contact and ultimately interest. But hey, may be I am too demanding sometimes and seems that's just me!Everybody else in the comments seems to like a lot your presentation today. Personally, I like the impeccable blue color here and gentle natural light in this frame. I know this web site is not all about photography, that's why I think you can understand my friendly and honest judgment. Have a lovely day Bayram.

Hello Bayram,
another great picture, sharp details and light fantastic. A nice image. Greetings, Paolo

Hi Bayram, this is not your best pic because there are part of the wings out of focus, but i know how was difficult a situation like that,a terrible position and a strong backlight too...and you manage very well the light for the best colors, this blue is fantastic!!Thanks for share, have a nice day,LUCIANO.

hello Bayram
this is very beautiful with great sharpness and details
great shot
greeting lou

TFS and regards,

Another stunner from you, Big Bro!
I love the sharpness here, it can cut!
An excellent composition!

Bayram hocam muhteşem. farklı iki ışık yönünün mükemmel kullanıldığı iki farklı çekim. "Öküz altında buzağı aramak" tabiri geldi aklıma:) Gerçek göz duruken başka gözden bahestmek de bu olsa gerek.:)
Elinize sağlık. Saygılarımla,

Hi Bayram! How are you! Good picture, the color of the butterfly is amazing and its a good composition. There is a kind of barrel distortion , where the edges are not sharp and the center is sharp, was this intentional?

selamlar sayın hocam,
mükemmel bir çalışma,
netlik harika.
mavinin bukadar güzelini arazide bile gördüğümü hatırlamıyorum.
çok zevkli bir çalışma.

Merhaba Bayram hocam,
