This is not my best butterfly shot… but my best of this species. I don’t know the ID of this woolly plant of the Lamiaceae family (Teucrium sp.?).

Melitaea didyma Esper, 1777 ♂
Family: Nymphalidae
Common names: Spotted Fritillary [En], Mélitée orangée, Damier orangé [Fr], Benekli İparhan [Tu]

Male’s uppersides are fiery orange-red with black borders; submarginal spots on forewing are rounded or rectangular. Female is variable, but always duller above, with heavier spotting.
The wingspan is 35-50 mm.
Several subspecies are known.
Distribution: Southern and Central Europe until Russia, North Africa, Algeria, Turkey, Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Western China.
The butterfly flies from May to September depending on the location.
Host plants: Plantago, Veronica, Digitalis, Valeriana, Verbascum, Antirrhinum, Linaria, Stachys, Centaurea, Veronica.

Hi Catherine,

You really know how to dress up a picture! Not only is the butterfly beautiful posing so gracefully on the interesting flower but your frame and vertical composition are exquisite. The colors of the butterfly, flower and background are a perfect blend and a feast for the eyes.

The light conditions look demanding in this shot taken from a difficult POV, Catherine.
Still you have managed a very good capture and the effect of the light filtering through the wings is very impressive.
Well done and TFS.

Hello Catherine,
Nice lighting, natural colours, sharpnrss where in focus allow us to see most of the features of this Spotted Fritillary taken from a POV that is not easy. The BG and composition with the woolly plant contribute to a pleasing image.
Thanks and have a good weekend,

Merhaba Catherine,

Hi Catherine. super macro photo of this beautiful frittillary. Details, POV and composition are great.
Best regards

Hallo Catherine
I know that your main subject is the lovely autumn coloured butterfly, but for me the details you captured on the plant it is resting on is extraordinary, and the soft sunlight in the backdrop is ever so lovely. All in all a beautiful macro with sharp focus, presented in a pleasant manner. It catches the eye in a flash. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hello Catherine, beautiful close up shot of this butterfly.
Details, light and colours are great.
TFS and regards,

Hmmmh, Catherine,
haven't paid the right attention to your latest mounts when I presented my M. didyma :-) Belatedly I acknowledge the excellence of your picture, be it the light, the composition or the posture of the fiery butterfly. Awesome! And you produced no clash of colors between flower and butterfly here, your flowers are wilted. Compliment!
Have a good weekend
