Lesser Long-nose Bat
Leptonycteris curasoae

I recently got back from Arizona photographing some of the really cool indigineous wildlife, one of my favorites were the nectar bats, here is one feeding on the nectar and pollen of an agave. Their tongue is as long as their body. I had about 12-15 of this species fluttering around me while photographing.

The Lesser Long-nose Bat with a total head and body measurement of approximately 3 inches (7.62 cm). The tongue measures approximately the same length as the body. This species also has a small noseleaf. The wingspan of L. curasoae is approximately 10 inches (25 cm) and the mass is roughly 23 grams.

Hello Paul,
Fantastic photo of this Cinnamon Gray Bat feeding on the nectar. Not a daily photo. The use of flash is gorgeous. The black BG makes it all mysterious, great for the atmosphere. Excellent sharpness, details and composition.

Absolutely stunning shot, Paul!
This comes after a long time,or were we both on and off at different times?
The black BG is a wonderful conveyor, if I may, of the well composed and well detailed FG!
Excellent shot, once again!

Wow, spectacular! I've not seen many shots like this here on TN. Congratulations on a fantastic shot.

Hi Paul,
that is one of the memorable posts on TN, this bat in all its unusual splendor. The picture is razorsharp. Here the impression of "night" caused by the flash is well justified. It must have been at dawn or dusk when you took the shot. Wonderful!!
Best regards

Hi Paul

Wow.. this is really awesome, dude!
We have many many bats here and i'm used to seeing them flying at dusk...but this is something else!!!
Really fantastic use of the flash here and great timing in order to capture such amazing details and this superb pose.
Simply nothing worth adding here, just very very professionally done!

Bravo and TFS

Fantastic image Paul..Maybe someday before I shuffle off this mortal coil, I can try to duplicate it. One can always hope?
Excellent technique & use of multiple flash..at night no less.
Good to hear that bat rabies thing has worked out OK, you've paid your dues.
You're my hero ;-}
