Love among bugs includes creativity and fantasy… as these Italian Stink Bugs teach us. The classical position for reproduction is on bottom, left. On bottom right, you can see a jealous and a solitary Half-spotted Stink Bug, a similar species.

Graphosoma italicum
Family: Pentatomidae
Common names: Italian Stink Bug, Italian Striped Stink Bug [En], Punaise arlequin, Graphosome italien, Pentatome rayé [Fr], Cimice delle piante [It], Pyjamawants, Rood-zwarte streepwants, Gevangeniswants [Nl], Streifenwanze [De]

This species is abundant on umbellifer flowers. Legs often completely in black and it has complete pronatal stipes on dorsum.

Graphosoma semipunctatum Fabricius, 1775
Family: Pentatomidae
Common names: Half-spotted Stink Bug [En], Graphosome ponctué, Pentatome ponctué [Fr]

The Half-spotted Stink Bug has broken stripes on the pronotum (pronatal stripes) into dots and the tibia almost entirely red instead of black. Another obvious difference is that the Half-spotted Stink Bug is orange, whereas the Italian Stink Bug is reddish.
It is a very widespread species in southern Europe and Mediterranean.

Un jolis assemblage, très belle couleurs et netteté.
Nous voici arrivé à une période creuse de l'année, bien dommage.

Hi Caroline - I like this series and I like the presentation. In each case the subject and the corresponding flower heads are in sharp focus and well exposed. How close were you to the subjects to get these into foucs like this at F11? - all the best Phil

Hola Catherine

Hi Catherine.
Seeing both of them in the same plant is very beautiful.
Good kolaj.

Hello Catherine,
a splendid collage of these special bugs. The stripes and colours are well presented.
Very amazing to note your composition. The flowers they perched on is equally interesting.
A very special view in good contrasting colours.

Hello Catherine,
a beautiful capture of 4 images of these insects in love. Colors and background perfect. Another nice picture. Best regards, Paolo

Chere Amie,Cathy
I posted earlier a critique to your photo - and when I added it to my favorites - everything disappeared. Should it reappear later on, I am neither tipsy nor drugged at this time of the day...

Right, I try again; As soon as I saw the thumbnail of your work I thought of the Carnival in Venice: Glitter, Colour, Fun, Craziness, Sensuality and movement everywhere. Insects showing us in four episodes how to do it properly :-))

I thank you for putting this collage together and hope you had as much fun as I have looking at it again and again. I add it to my favorites so I can look at it when ever I want...

I wish you a happy day and a fun-filled week
Love and a big hug

Awesome collage Catherine!!
I don't know what I like most, the insects or the unusual looking flowers. Both are shown with exceptional detail and beautiful coloration. Each photo is of highest quality and deserves recognition on it's own. Great job!!
