The European Herring Gull (Larus argentatus) is a large gull (up to 26 inches or 66 cm long), and is the most abundant and best known of all gulls along the shores of western Europe.[1] It breeds across Northern Europe, Western Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic states. Some European Herring Gulls, especially those resident in colder areas, migrate further south in winter, but many are permanent residents, e.g. in the British Isles, Iceland, or on the North Sea shores. European Herring Gulls are also abundant around inland garbage dumps, and some have even adapted to life in inland cities.

Hi Siegfried,
A lovely capture of this beautiful Herring Gull with a crab in its mouth. Excellent composition and sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Siegfried,
Excellent composition and good sharp details, great shooting clear and beautiful with vivid colors. Greetings,
Murat

Dear Siegfried
Thank you for showing this gull wrestling with a crab! Interesting action!

It would be an even better photo, if you had not chopped off the last bit of tail... :-))

I do appreciate the natural colours very much!!

Have a nice day
Kind Regards
Ingrid

Well captured Sigi. Good, sharp detail and lovely Eye contact. If the original allows, I suggest you add a little more space at the back and the bottom to improve the composition.

Greetings
Frans.

Ciao Siegfried. Very well done this interesting capture taken in backlight. Good details, nice compo.

Hello Siggi,
Not easy to make a photo in this backlight. But you handled it very nice. Good photo with this crab as prey. Evenso a good DOF and low POV. Beautiful natural colours.

Peter

Hi Siegfried.
You are luck shooter. You managed to catch a wonderful scene. Despite the strong sunlight you have exposure the image very well and combination of sharpness of the gull and its prey and blurriness of the BG is excellent. Only framing on the left side is hard a bit. My kind wishes and TFS.
Alexei.

Fantastic shot Siggi friend! Dynamic scene of a wonderful predator and its pray! Bravo!

George Veltchev

Splendid photo of this Larus argentatus with his prey, TFS!

Hi Siggi. This is a great catch for the bird and an awesome one for you too. Excellent timing in beautiful close framing. The details are amazing under very good control of exposure. Even the crab is in well defined details. Well done and thanks for sharing - Jusni

Hello Siggi,
A fine capture of European Herring Gull with its crab capture. The lateral POV is great and the difficult lighting well managed. The sharpness, natural colours and composition on the beach with the blurred sea Bg make this an excellent image.
Thanks and kind regards,
Ivan

Bonjour Siegfried,
Très belle scène de la vie sauvage restituée avec beaucoup de réalisme ; domage que le cadrage soit un peu trop serré sur la gauche de l'image.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
