THE MOST PHOTOGENIC NYMPHALID THE COMMANDER,
very difficult to catch a shot as its busy flights and rest onr higher bushes. Reddish brown wings marked with brad discal white band across both wings. Near the tip there are 4 transverse white marks on fore wings and wavy black lines on terminal boarders. Two rows of black spot on the hind wing and terminal black band. Low elevation , most widely distributed in India, frequent visitor in garden. very fond of patches and Marigold flowers. Fond to sit on sunlight wings open sudden flight moving only the wing tips. Exhibits territorial behaviour often found rising up and chasing other butterflies.
Larva is Blackish and ugly with spiny head and body with spiny processes. Larval food plants are Almonds, cinchona, wild and garden varities of Mussaenda spp.
Wing span 60-75mm

Please be more careful with your focus, here the deep of field (DOF) is slightly bad managed (foreground wing is too unfocused).
