Panellus mitis

This tiny fungus, with a cap of 5-15 mm across, is found here on decaying branches in the Pine forest. They’re white-cream in colour almost turning pink when old, see WORKSHOP. Of the over 10,000 species of fungus in Sweden this little one is easily overlooked. It is not edible!

In Sweden there are some excellent books with advice on what species are edible and as we in Sweden have a law called the Public right of Access, picking edible mushrooms has long been a popular pursuit. However with the arrival of digital cameras with excellent facilities for macro photography more people are discovering the beauty of mushrooms and the more you look the more you’ll find, the smaller in size, the more interesting!

The Swedish name is ‘Vintermussling’.

A fine macro-scene indeed within a carefully prepared, eye pleasing composition Ulla, you've managed the exposure very well here, it is not easy to get it right while photographing light and dark subjects close together. An excellent job, my friend!
Cheers,
Mehmet

hello Ulla
this fungus species really similar to oysters. they nicely formed a cluster on old wooden piece. you greatly captured them with excellent focus and white balance. coloration and light using superb. POV and DOF great and so blurry greenish BG nicely contrasted to their light colors. goog information as always. many thanks to share. have a good night and have a nice weekend

A superb shot again with your G9, Ulla. While looking for this particular camera in Delhi at the two most leading stores, I was told that this edition of Canon was long gone and I had the choice of only the latest models. That is why I went for Powershot SX120 and I'm not sure if I can get pictures like this one with it.
Once again, I repeat my assertion that it is not necessary to use a DSLR to obtain a great picture like the one you have posted today.
Regards.
Ram

Hola Ulla

Esta si que es una imagen bien tomada y con perfecta nitidez, no como las mías que siempre le faltan foco. Perfecta composición, colores naturales y un POV excelente.

Un saludo de Antonio

Hi Ulla. This shot is so beautiful with gills that are so sharp and hard to capture. The natural tone is so pleasing and the diagonal framing against the silenced background shows us how well you have handled the camera. Fisr class capture and thanks for sharing. Regards - Jusni

Hello Ulla,
what an outstanding composition and excellent sharpness. The oysters are really well seen in details and superb balance of colours. The diagonal composition of the branch makes it more special and lively.
I like the simplicity very much.

Foozi

Hi Ulla,
I don't know how and why I missed this superb post about a species which doesn't live in Hungary (just checked out the local literature, it was never detected here). Excellent details on the gills, perfect DoF, beautiful contrast, great diagonal composition. Bravo Madame! Pleasant job. I also checked out your "Fungi in Sweden" theme, it's very interesting, continue it. Tfs.
Friendly regards, László
