[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
According to me, TN has completely lost its unique way regarding the “learning nature with photography” and it has been transformed into “learning about photography through nature” thanks to some internet trolls who accept themselves as “excellent” trainers”. Even worse, it has turned into a site where some people (I strictly exclude those valuable members) get their egos pumped up and behave rude to some other members.

In this way, I am really bored such kind of activities which do not fit within mine and therefore I am leaving this site until refining such kind of activities from TN and becoming again a site “to learn about nature”.. During that time, I’ll only try to make comments on very interesting and remarkable presentations and to help on ids to real nature lovers…

I do apologize from other members who have natural intimacy and instincts.

As a last post I am presenting a portrait of a male Levant/Blunt-nosed Viper (Macrovipera lebetina) which I captured during our herpetological trips to SE Anatolia (Suruç, Şanlıurfa) in 2009. It is the most venomous/dangerous species of Turkey and Cyprus Island.

TFL and cheers,

*****************************

This viper species is a large snake, with females reaching 214 cm in length and males growing to a similar size. However, sizes vary between different populations. Its range includes Cyprus Island (represented by nominate subspecies), Turkey (S and E Anatolia) [ssp. euphratica known from S, whereas in Eastern parts ssp. obtusa is distributed], Syria, N. Iraq, Jordan and Middle Asia with a vertical distribution to 2000 m.

The head is broad, triangular and distinct from the neck. The snout is rounded and blunt when viewed from above, which is why it is also called the blunt-nosed viper. Top of the head covered with small, keeled scales, including over the eyes. Pupils are vertical. Its venom may be dangerous to man, or fatal if not treated, but does not strike if not disturbed.

This species is a ground-dweller, diurnal in colder periods, nocturnal in the hottest periods. Often it is encountered on roads during the night time in summer. It is seen frequently in flat meadows or pastures without trees and rocky places, ruins, cultivated fields and gardens. It feeds mainly on rodents, other small mammals, birds, lizards and occasionally even other snakes. It is rather shy, but ready to bite if cornered. When disturbed, it starts the typical body coils are arranged in a double crescent, with the concave side including “S”-curved neck and ready-to-strike head turned towards the enemy. Due to the effectiveness and large volume of the venom, it is the most dangerous snake of Turkey and Cyprus Island. In both Turkey and Cyprus Island, its abundance is extremely low. Therefore, it is evident that it is endangered and needs protection like all other viper species.

During a laboratory work for determining taxonomical and venom protein differences between the Turkish and Cypriot populations of the species, I was bitten from my finger accidentally by an adult, 75 cm long blunt-nosed viper. Taking advantage of this opportunity, we’ve conducted a study to present the clinical, physiological, serological and biochemical developments after envenomating. You can reach detailed information on this visiting the related paper on my web site.

Hello dear friend,
What a fantastic viper! You came so close of this handsome with mysterious eyes. Thanks to his bifurcated tongue, snakes are able to find their way through the direction of smells. The bifurcated tongue of this handsome viper tells you to remain faithful to your convictions... I share your way. Congratulations and take care. Good night,
Cathy

TFS Michel

Dear Prof. Bayram,

I fully agree to your point. But don't you think human civilization and societies behave in this manner only. There will always be few people who would love to boost their egos by any means, and their will be others who don't care about their egos and selflessly spread knowledge.

I was disheartened to read the messages by you and Catherine. I will not repeat my request to Catherine here, however, please spare some time to read the link below.

http://www.treknature.com/read.php?f=2&t=153910&m=192834

This is an unrated message for you and I will not give any points to you for your last post, because I don't want this to be last post. Looking forward to keep getting your valuable discussions about nature as well as your photographs.

Best regards,
Vinay

Hola Bayram

Aw shucks. Keep on keeping on. I refuse to believe there can be a TN without your images......yes even fungi. A fine lesson plan Bayram.

Hello Bayram,
I know that you are doing what you believe is best for you, but I can honestly say you have helped me numerous times here on TN not only with identifying species, but also with technical questions. You have never hesitated even for a second to offer help, and this I am forever grateful to you.
You are a wonderful photographer and more importantly a good friend that I have come to know here on TN. I will miss not only your outstanding images, but also your knowledge about nature and it's creatures. Good luck on whatever you decide to do in the future. Thank You Again!!

Hello Bayram,
Well, there are all sorts to make the world and if we leave the bossy ones to take charge what happens? This site will NEVER stay perfect for long just like the world around us. The management don't bother about the rules so let's battle on together and show that there are some of us who refuse to be trodden upon!
This is a fantastic capture of the Blunt-nosed Viper showing very sharp details in good light and colours. I take it as a present to those with a 'sharp' tongue!!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Thank you for your fantastic presentation today Bayram. I do not know how educational is this post but as a photograph the image is realy superb. Good point of view, good detail sharpness and composition. An amazing Viper portrait with awesome impact! Bravo.

P.S.
Sorry, no points today.

great portrait, the scene with the tongue outside is very good!

Merhaba MF Prof. Bayram,
may you be filled with happiness and continued commitment in sharing passion in Nature and its deep knowledge.
Indeed it is another uncomfortable news and definitely a sad one, as sharing from a learned is not easy. To be honest I share direct and indirect information and knowledge from you more than the local expertise here.
Asking and getting information from your note saves lots of time. Going through tonnes of info is simply too heavy to shoulder. In this sense I must say your contribution is so much here in TN.
Almost every post is useful and friends award you a smiley - 2 points is nothing compared to the photo and elaboration.
Sometimes an amateur like me, have to spend a lot of time for this unpaid passion. But happiness being with friends exchanging view and knowledge gives some fun.
But the fact situation crosses the path of your principles, I feel so sad.
I share your feelings, but I hope you can still contribute still.
Hope everything will be okay.
All the best to you and i will remember the good deeds you did.

Best regards,
Foozi

Hello my friend Bayram. I think you should continue and post your pictures for us to share and at the same time continue helping out with the IDs. We need professional people who are expert in their own field. TH attracted me to learn more about nature which I admit, I knew very little before joining the site. I always admire people here who has tons of knowledge who can assist me with valuable information through this site. I am now more conscious with what goes on around me than before and thanks to the ability to guide from people like you. We can't control people as we will lose control of yourself if we do. We just accept their strength and weaknesses as what we do with people around us - that is part of being human. I hope you will stay and keep coming to help me with the ID - like my upload today. I have absolutely no idea of the specimen that I have just uploaded.
Thanks my friend and keep shooting and sharing.
This is a great shot!
Kind regards - Jusni

Hello Bayram,
What a great courage to take a photo face to face with this interesting but dangerous snake. (with your macro lens)
Clarity, details and composition are splendid.
I was looking for snakes near Timis River (15 km away from Timisoara, Romania) but I see only one snake (probably water snake).
He was runing away so quickly that I can't take pictures.
I will try next year......Have a nice evening!
Marius.

Hi Bayram,
this is a "frightening" photo. Very interesting tongue! Great sharpness and composition. Amazing light,

P.S. Thanks for Your critiques

Hi Bayram

An incredible contribution: a viper reaching 2,14 metres!! distribution up to 2,000 metre!!
No more sleeping in Sleeping Bags outdoors!!

You are a cool customer "...was bitten from my finger accidentally by an adult, 75 cm long blunt-nosed viper. Taking advantage of this opportunity, we’ve conducted a study to present the clinical..."

The educational value of your presentation is exceptional.

It is very sad to envisage you stop to show TrekNature members samples from your field work and your far ranging knowledge.

I have looked through your portfolio and without any doubt TrekNature will be poorer without your contributions and the members lose out.

The international scientific community recognises your vast experience, and your reputation reaches far.

Hello Bayram,
Well My Friend, I do understand your reasons completely, between losing you and Catherine this site has become very much poorer for it. All you have to do is read the many comments from members wanting you to stay, to see how much you'll be missed. I do fear for a mass exodus.
Great image Bayram, a cat's eye like it lie, is that not the saying.

Hola Bayram:

.........................

Hello Bayram:

I understand your position but do not share.

I think your position is more favorable to those people you mention and not to those who admire you, so I think your position is wrong.

Think of the consequence:

TN lost a prominent member.
Many of us lose a friend, at least to share.
New users can learn from your work.

I told you once do not give importance to these voices that just look at your ego
and basa your attention on the essential: the nature.

Finally, it is your decision which I respect.

A hug: Josep Ignasi.

- Indeed, the picture you show us your line: beautiful.

Dear Uncle Bayram,

I respectfully understand and agree with you 100%. People are selfish in general and some are not aware of there own consciousness. Self awareness, and respect other people are slowly fading away because of the influence of monetary economics and capitalist system we live in. Your unique work, and name will always be appreciated by the true nature lovers and will always remain that way. I deepdown know how hard you work for the benefits of PEOPLE and the NATURE. One advice to you..Just return back to TrekNature, igonore peoples with no Egos. YOU ARE NEEDED HERE........all the best..

Your cousin

Hi Bayram,

good words of a good man. Your snake head-on is an excellent reminder of what you are saying. Let us see what the New Year brings.

My best wishes to the holiday season.

Tebrikler

Hi Bro,

Fantastic photo, excellent both in technicality and composition-wise. Superb sharpness and details. No more words needed, it's a masterpiece. Bravo.

I'm very sad you decided to partially leave TN. Of course I accept your decision, however, I absolutely agree with (I read all critiques in the queue) Josep Ignasi: "I think your position is more favorable to those people you mention and not to those who admire you, so I think your position is wrong". Also with Christodoulos: "Cypriots never give up". :) I truly hope to see further images of you - if not now, at least later.

Thanks for all the beautiful photos and in-depth notes you shared with us in the past years. I've learnt so much from you - both about nature and about photography. Without you and Cathy, TN looses a lot of its unique favour.

Friendly regards, László

Hi Bayram.
Your shot is really stunning. It is a true masterpiece in every photography skill aspect. However, your point and reasoning are disputable. I think you too restrict the purposes and role of TN and make too rigid demands to its members.

I am a full professor many years. My salary is $ 425 per month. (This is an achievement of independent Ukraine (independent from conscience, morals, knowledge, professionalism etc.). It is absolutely not enough even for beggarly existence. I compelled to find and do any work from morning to evening and from evening to morning to keep my family and to live adequately. I cannot spend a lot of time for study Nature in many aspects. But I love nature photography, I love Nature, I love my friends here and I love to communicate with them here again. May be I am a bad TN-member. Sorry.
Alexei.
P.S. Happy Holiday Season and wishes to come back here.

Hello sir,

Absolutely this is a finest picture of a VIPER. TFS.
I just want to wish you a very happy new year. Hope you will return back to TN with your best pics & valuable critiques. Many of us waiting for your guidance.

Thanks & regards,
Kapil

Hello Bayram !
When I came back on TN after several months without Internet, I was very surprised to read that you won't post or participate anymore (or at least not regularly). I have almost admired both your work and the interesting species you were showing us. You are a very talented photographer, and we will all miss you. But I can understanf your reasons.
As for the picture, I can say just one thing - PERFECT. Pin sharp, nice natural colors, splendid composition and POV, and such a great timing, to be able to capture him with the tongue sticking out. Very well done !
Valérie.

Sad that this was your last shot on TN, Big Bro!
Very nicely framed close-p here!
Bravo!
Goldy

Sevgiler saygilar...

Hello Bayram
Wooow...talking about great details and great risks, usually when it comes to dangerous snakes, I rather not capture them because I do not know the behavior, but non the less great presentation and interesting description.
Friendly regards
Hedesan
