Barn Owl
(Tyto alba) 仓鸮
Size: 34 cm

Unmistakable; note its characteristic heart-shaped face; appears very white as it flies at night, like a ghost.

A screeching wheech and penetrating ke-ke-ke.

It occurs in open woodlands and often in built-up areas. It spends the day roosting in a dark place such as dense tree, a cliff ledge or under a building. At night it flies out of silent wings to hunt for rats and other small prey in the open country. The nest is constructed in a cavity in a tree or building.
Uncommon resident breeder in the island.
