Commander Butterfly Caterpillar

The caterpillar is dirty brown with a chestnut tinge and dark brown splotches all over. The body also bears numerous processes which help to break up its outline. The behaviour of this caterpillar is very interesting in that it is one of the species of butterfly that makes long chains of frass. It eats up part of the leaf it is on and uses bits of leaves which are strung up with silk along with droppings. The caterpillar rests on the exposed mid rib of a leaf after removing the leafy portions on the sides. This behaviour may be to dissuade ants from crossing over the chain of frass behind which the caterpillar rests.

Hello Arun,
What a strange caterpillar. Very special. Excellent sharpness, details and beautiful colours. I should have cropped a piece from the right side, the red leave(?) is a bit distracting.

Ciao Arun. Impressive caterpillar taken in very good details and superb colours. Intrigant playing of light. Interesting frontal POV.

Bonjour Arun,
A strange looking caterpillar. Nice that you even know its ID. Personally I think that a side-view could have been easier as approach, but that frontal picture shows well this very weird creature. I agree with Peter's suggestion to cut the right part of the shot.
Kind regards

Hello Arun,
One would never know this was a caterpiller at first glance. It reminds me of one of those aliens from a movie I viewed as a child. Great head on POV showing excellent detail and vivid coloration. Overall a wonderful and interesting photo!!
I'm glad these guys don't grow to be the size of an elephant, wouldn't that be a real nightmare!!

very intersting caterpilar shot,

congratulations Arun !

have a good time,

ciao, tino

Curiosa y extraña oruga. Todo un reto para el fotógrafo por
esas complicadas formas y texturas.

Hello Arun,

what an rare and strange caterpillar.
Good pov and sharpness, with bg nicely blurred.
Fine colors.

Thorny look, 'do not touch me' evolutionary strategy. Interesting caterpillar, have a nice weekend. Is this photo cropped? I mean sharpness is not enough for me.

That is certainly an interesting looking caterpillar, Arun.
He has so many protusions, some round and some spiky.
That is a great POV to show this larva in all his glory.
TFS. : )

Wow! This looks lime something from another planet! Interesting comment, too!

Perfeita em definição e cores. Na verdade desconhecia esta espécie de borboleta, mas gostei imenso do trabalho do autor. Abraço
