"Black-banded White"
Itaballia demophile LINNAEUS, 1776

Hello friends!

Yesterday, "walking" through web pages of butterflies, I found the ID of this butterfly shoted by me the past January moth.

This is a new butterfly in my collection, certainly, of all "whites" in my area, I think this is the least common.

If you look good, at the bottom of the photo is another pair of antennae, these are of another butterfly. Interestingly, they are mating, and the second butterfly was almost completely hidden by the green leaf! ... These butterflies are really restless, and this was the only opportunity to take a picture I found...ˇTired of love both! :)

Regards,

Jesús

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Lepidoptera
Family: Pieridae
Genus: Itaballia
Specific name: Itaballia demophile

Introduction: The genus Itaballia contains only 3 species - pandosia, marana and demophile, all confined to the neotropical region.

Itaballia demophile is the commonest and most widespread member of the genus, being found from Mexico to Paraguay. Both sexes are similar in appearance, but the markings of the female are heavier and browner.

Habitats: The butterfly is found in disturbed habitats including forest clearings, riverbanks, roadsides, fields, cattle pastures and wasteland, at altitudes between sea level and at least 800m.

Lifecycle: The following applies in general to the genus Itaballia :

The eggs are yellow, and laid singly on leaves of Capparis ( Capparidaceae ).

The caterpillars are typically green, adorned with yellow and blue tubercles.

The chrysalis is whitish and adorned with black spikes on the back. It is formed on a mat of silk spun on the upper surface of Capparis leaves.

Adult behaviour: Males are usually seen in small numbers, amidst mixed aggregations of Pieridae and Papilionidae which "mud-puddle" on river sandbanks, seepages and other sources of mineralised moisture

wonderful angle. great clarity and sharpness. unique species of butterfly.

No ... I will not begin with poetry here although this image deserves
some quote from the Shakespeare's love writings.....what an elegance,
what a classic, what a stile and what a delicate legs .... well,
maybe not "legs";) but the beauty of this seemingly ordinary
creature is breathtaking indeed!
Great capture in every respect! Bravo friend Jesus!

y el formato bien estudiado, me encanta el blanco; ese blanco es blanco y lo demás son
historias. Enhorabuena de nuevo por tan bonito trabajo.
