Today I am sending a photo of this small butterfly. It's The Map (Araschia levana) spring generation.
The female lays eggs on the underside of the leaf nettle.

The Map (Araschia levana)
Czech name: Babočka síťkovaná

It creates for two to three generations, the butterflies are different color. Spring generation - a form levana has wings reddish-brown and black speckled. Later generations of summer prorsa has dark brown wings with white and red patches. In good years, when the beautiful autumn long, still autumn generation occurs porima whose coloration is intermediate between the spring and summer form.
The emergence of this form depends on the number of days the development of caterpillars. For the longest summer days, develops a form prorsa.
Not so long ago was one of the rare species. Today it occurs in appropriate locations everywhere in large numbers, where nature is still preserved. She flies in the gardens, where there is plenty of blossoms, it attracts attention with its fragrance. Also flies in the woods and meadows full of flowers. They meet her wet meadow vegetation and sparse forests and clearings. It prefers partially shaded habitats in the lowlands and hilly country up to 1000 m.
Habitat: It is very abundant, but in some areas, the local occurrence. Like other small tortoiseshell lives mainly on the nettles in the penumbra. Caterpillar to disguise and is fastened to the plant, on which hangs. There is currently no threat. The first generation of spring but does not live in intensively farmed areas, rather in the shaded areas with nettles, individuals hatched less than the summer generation.

This is an excellent photo!
Not only because it it technically very good ,with fine sharpness and details, but that it shows levana laying eggs in the special way for this species, with its egg strings under the nettle leaf. The colours and composition are excellent too.

Hello Milos,
A very interesting picture of The Map-butterfly in full action of laying eggs. Lucky you to have seen it! Next Spring I will have a look to the underside of Nettle-leaves! I saw this butterfly for the first time in my life this year, and funnily just 5 minutes away from my home.
