Suraj Tal (Sun Lake) at an altitude of nearly 4800 meters is the source of River Bhaga. The Lake lies on the Manali-Leh highway which open only from June to September and remains closed in rest of the year due to heavy snow.

Bhaga River meets it's cousin Chandra River (originating at the Moon Lake - Chandra Tal) and at the confluence this river is called Chandrabhaga (Chenab), one of the five rivers of Punjab (state now divided into two, one remains in India and another one in Pakistan).
