Ploceus velatus (Southern masked-weaver)

Distribution and habitat: Occurs across southern Africa even in arid areas, extending into Angola, Zambia and Malawi. It generally favours semi-arid scrub, open savanna, woodland edges, riverine thicket, farmland with scattered trees, alien tree plantations and gardens.

Food: It mainly eats seeds, fruit, insects and nectar, doing most of its foraging in small flocks, gleaning prey from leaves and branches, taking seeds from the ground and grass stems.
Best Regards,

Bungbing.

Hi Bunyapon,
The Southern Masked-Weaver is amongst the most interesting birds for photography and certainly my favorite. Love the simplicity in this warm scene and the perfect clean background. The bird pose is indicative and shows the elegance of its shape in the best possible way, I think. The image however is not sharp Bunyapon! If you enlarge it, you will notice this even further. Why f/10 when you do not need massive depth of field and this will reduce considerably your shutter speed at the given ISO? Perhaps 1/640s was not enough to freeze the bird and this was done in an expense of the detail ... well, Bunyapon maybe next time!

George Veltchev

Impressive focused red eye and intrigant warm tones. Lovely compo. very well done.

Hello Bungbing,
Very nice photo, specially the matching colours of the bird with the colours in the background are very beautiful. Great POV and composition.

Peter

hello Bungbing
Great pose with good details and beautiful colours
thanks greeting lou

Hi Bungbing,
a very nice and lively presentation of colourful Ploceus velatus taken from an ideal point of view to have head and chest an almost rectangular side view while the legs are spread in alert. Perfectly well isolated from a bright uniform background.
Can't complain about lack of sharpness. To me it looks reasonably good for a shot taken from long distance and probably a considerable amount of cropping from a much larger image.
With thanks, and all my best wishes to you,
Peter

Interesting bird Bungbing! The sharpness is not the best but the pose of the bird, the composition, the BG and the colours are excellent.

Christodoulos
