[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One of my early shots in digital. The Australian Pelican is a common waterbird through most of the continent. This shoot is useful because it shows the bird in breeding plumage. During sexual arousal, feathers on the back are raised and blood flow is increased through the bill-pouch and various shades of pink and pink-blue are found on the pouch. The pelican warbles the pouch by passing air though and so you get an undualting wave-like effect, which presumably impresses the female. Most breeding takes place on islands in remote inland lakes after heavy rain. However off nearby Wollongong a colony was established in 1982 on the Five Islands Nature Reserve, the only marine island rookery in eastern Australia.

What odd eyes you have! Great shot, odd looking thing, especially with that great big sack under the beak. Great capture and good all round. Well done.

Enorme pico Chris... en una bella captura.
Buenos detalles y agudeza con el brillo de ese ojo espectacular.
Atinado encuadre con una suave reflexion que mejora aun más la imagen.

Enormous beak Chris... in a beautiful capture.
Good details and sharpness with the brightness of that spectacular eye.
Accurate frame with a smooth reflection that even improves more the image.

Very good Chris.
Great colours , good sharness with fine details and nice reflection.
Good note,
Well done.

Hi Cris, and well met.
I love this guy with the oversized bill. Also, now I can watch some of the nice birdies from OZ. AS a small nit, I think the eyes are not tack sharp. This is a problem I find with the colour/texture of many bird's eyes, there is something that defies the camera's autofocus, meter or whatever, it just comes out "strange", like Paul mentioned. Also, you should bracket to try and get the whites correctly exposed.
All this said, I still love this guy!

Comme elle est jolie cette photo de pélican, et les reflets apportent un petit plus agréable...
Well done !

Beautiful capture. Good details and sharpness
I am working now on a movie abut white Pelican. I didn’t no that the Australian Pelicans are so beautiful. Well done !Eyal

Very beautiful shot. The colors are very eyecatching and focus is perfect. I especially like the reflections in the water. I like the information in the note as well.

Nice picture.
some enhancements would might improve the picture.
using no flash would not let the reflection come over the beack.
taking out the black water spots from the picture would clarify the background and emphasize the pelican.
anyways nice shot.

I find that this picture offers some nice contrast on the different colors exposed. As soon as I saw this picture I liked it. Very nice picture that should have deserve more points definitively.
