OPHIOGOMPHUS CECILIA

Green Snaketail
Grüne Flussjungfer

Family: Gomphidae
Size: ca 5cm
Wingspan: 6,5-7,5cm
Distribution: Mainly in Eastern Europe and until Kazakhstan. Can be found too sometimes in the Western part of Europe. Very seldom over 500m altitude.
Habitat: lives near streams and rivers and poses especially on boulders.
I have seen this specimen posed on a rounded stone close to the river Aar.

I have added another picture in the WS showing a lateral view of the dragonfly.

Thanks to all who have confirmed my ID.

Hello Anne. Nice head-on photo with good detail.
You may be right re the ID. If its got all black legs then it might be Gomphus vulgatissimus. regards yiannis

I actually like that point of view ... very much in fact, the depth of field seems just right and those green colors ...oh .... those green colors are so delicious indeed! Well done Anne! Good evening, are you well today!

Hi Anne,
Splendid photo of this interesting Dragonfly species, TFS!

Hallo Anne,
Helmut

Ciao Anne, great POV on wonderful dragonfly, fine details, splendid colors and excellent sharpness, very well done my friend, ciao Silvio

Ciao Anne,
Grazie
Buon pomeriggio
Con amicizia
Maurizio

Hello Anne,

This is a special composition with the DF on the smooth time polished rocks & the bokeh greenery in the bg. The image is very sharp & now I see & for the very first time an animated, almost perplexed expression the face. Too funny & great work!

Regards,

Derek
