Name : Common Jay
Scientific Name : Graphium Doson

The Common Jay (Graphium doson) is a black, tropical papilionid butterfly with pale blue semi-transparent central wing bands that are formed by large spots. There is a marginal series of smaller spots. The underside of wings is brown with markings similar to upperside but whitish in color. The sexes look alike.

It is widespread and common throughout Southeast Asia, including lower elevations in Sri Lanka and Southern India, Eastern Ghats, Satpuras, Bengal and Assam, and the Himalayan foothills. The species is however scarce in southern Honshū, Japan.

Hi Arun,
Very interesting b-fly species. The white dots on his wings seem like lost details - but the flowers clearly show there wasn't any overexposion at all. Nice composition, great job. Congrats and tfs.
Best regards, László

It is great to have a good focus of this fast moving butterfly. Lately, I tried several times and never able to get close enough to take a picture. Thanks for sharing this beauty.

Hi Arun,

The flowers are helping to frame the butterfly. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the Common Jay butterfly. The afternoon light is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.
