This was a bit of a tough shot to make. Not so much for the exposure or composition but more for the getting to the spot I was standing. In simple words, I fell down a rock and landed on my side trying to protect my backpack with camera gear. It hurt...but not enough to continue the walk to this spot.

Setting up my tripod wasn't easy either. The ground was really boggy and there was a strong wind. I used a bungee cord strapped from my backpack to my tripod to make it less affected by the wind. After that it was just a waiting game for a small gap in the clouds.

In hindsight, I should have paid a little more attention to the final tweaks of the tripod head and exclude one or two partial rocks from the composition.

Hallo Niek,
Dat ging dus niet vanzelf, begrijp ik. Maar het resultaat is schitterend. Wat een prachtfoto! Erg mooie kleuren en een geweldig goede diepte en compositie.

Hello Niek,
great landscape picture with a well chosen POV to create good depth to your image. I also like the beautifully natural colours and the silent mood.
Best wishes,

absolutely BREATHTAKING..you will remember this for a lifetime!!

Your difficulties in getting this shot were worthwhile Niek!
The lighting, compoaition and colours are wonderful in this arctic Norwegian shot and the perspective is just right.
Perhaps the partial rock on the right could have been left out but that's a small point.
Thanks and have a good week,

Hola Niek.

Hi Niek,
amazing view. Great composition. Perfect sharpness. Nice details. Amazing colours.
Have a nice week,

Great landscape and nature and wonderfull pic with great composition and colours.

Hello Niek,
What a beautiful perspective!! Wonderful colours and excellent composition. Well done!

This is really lovely Niek. I'm wondering if your version is as dark as mine. The water in the front is almost pure black??? I see what you mean about the partial rocks. The only one that bothers me is the the bright one on the far right side. I think without the other one (center right bottom) the composition would be a little heavy with mountains and boulders in the left half of the image.

So... better broken bones than broken camera gear! hmmmmm I understand. I broke a lens once on the first day I used it!

Thanks for sharing such technically superb and beautiful image.

Hello Niek,
Sometimes you need endurance to take the shot you want..and I must admit that I had already fell down too...but you have found an ideal point of view to take this shot. I probably would have put the stone at left a little more in the corner so that the one at right would be a little more visible. What I especially like here is the atmosphere you caught and the different fine tints of blue and the colors of the lichencovered stones.
I wish Merry Christmas to you and your family
Take care

Hello Niek,

Hello Niek,
You once again masterfully captured the beauty of the scene superbly. The cloud shrouded mountains forming a beautiful back drop and the rocks in the water leading your eye into the image, Great work Niek.

Hi Niek,

What a beuatiful place and beautiful photo full of mood with the cloudy sky. Love the way the stones scatters across the calm surface of the water, almost like they are floating.

Love it.

Hi Niek,

Using a tripod and a slow shutter speed is allowing me to see the details and the colors of the mountains. The distance between the rocks in the foreground and the mountains is giving depth to the composition. It is well divided, the sky, the mountains and the water with the rocks. Have a nice day.
