Let me introduce to you my new neighbors. These are a pair of cute common starlings. They suited a nest under a roof of the next (countryside garden) house. They (or other one) do it every year. Nevertheless, this year they are not timid absolutely and allowed me to take many photos from rather short distance.

After long and very cold spring at once there has come hot summer. In the end of April record-breaking hot weather for all history of supervision in Odessa has been reached. This starling does not sing. It simply sits with open beak.

High ISO at the shot is my fault.

The Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris), also known as the European Starling or just Starling, is a passerine bird in the family Sturnidae.

This species of starling is native to most of temperate Europe and western Asia. It is resident in southern and western Europe and southwestern Asia, while northeastern populations migrate south and west in winter to these regions, and also further south to areas where it does not breed in Iberia and north Africa. It has also been introduced to Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, North America, and South Africa.

More info see here: Common starling.

Hello Alexei,
Nice neighbours you have!
Excellent capture of this European Starling in breeding colours.
The POV showing its open bill pose is great and taken with fine sharpness and natural colours on the corugated roof, that provides good nesting conditions. The screeches of the young can be a bit bit disturbing though!
Thanks and enjoy your weekend,
Ivan

Hello Alexei,

Hello Alex,
Very well chosen title for your shot! And excellent sharpness to show this bird with its metallic shining plumage so well. Interesting composition. We had this year also some nesting pairs in our surroundings, but quite high on trees. I never had seen so many Starlings around.
Take care and thanks for your kind words on my last posting.
Anne

Ciao Yannis. Good low POV and brigh colours for the detailed bird. Amazing metallic reflecions.

Bonjour Alexei,
Un bon angle de prise de vue et une excellente profondeur de champ valorisant bien le sujet dans une belle lumičre.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
Gérard

This Starling is prettier than the ones we have in India, Alexei. European Starling has beautiful patterns and colours on its feathers and plumage.
This is a signature Alexei picture -- sharp, crisp and beautiful.
The blue sky makes a lovely background.
It had turned very hot here in north India but we had showers last night and the weather has turned cooler.
Best regards.
Ram

Privet Alexei,
Although the surface of the roof disturb composition but the starling look in sunbeams perfectly. His glossy plumage and typical pose exactly display beauty.

Hello ALexei,
A very fine view of a Starling in sparkling spring plumage! Excellent sharpness and beautiful colours that really stand out against the blue sky. We have many here too but they're often seen in the grass and hard to capture!
TFS and all the best wishes, Ulla

Hello Alexei,
I remember the first time I saw a Starling like this up close. I was surprised at the beauty of it's iridescent plumage. The tiny white specks really do remind you of stars in the night sky.
You did a fine job of capturing this particular fellow in a nice relaxed pose. Focus is tac sharp and exposure is right on the money. Great work!!
Ron

excellent details and perfect focus for this starling, congratulations Alex for the capture,
have a good time,

ciao, tino

Thanks for your critique Alexei, just too busy these days :)

Beautiful shot of the starling in breeding plumage. Great light and good composition

Chris

Hallo Alexei,
a very good capture of this European Starling, superb sharpness and marvellous natural colours
TFS
Best regards
Maurizio

Hi Alexei,
With the hope you return to the site soon... Again a breathtaking starling capture with incredible clearness. By my opinion everything was done the rightest way, the result of the high ISO you mentioned isn't visible at all. Beautiful composition and interesting note, as always from you. Lovely image, a photo to be proud of. Bravo. Ah, before forgetting: the title's great, too and fits the image very well. Tfs.
Have a great festive season, best regards, László
