[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi friends. This is a photo from my Etosha archive.
It was taken with my Canon EF 300f/4L IS USM lens fitted with a 1.4 converter.
Apart from cropping a bit and slight contrast adjustment, no other PP was applied.
Hope you enjoy it and comments are welcome.

Yellow-billed hornbills prefer to forage on the ground, but they will also hop up into trees and bushes. They are not picky eaters, taking whatever they can find. They nest in holes in trees, and like other hornbills, the female seals herself in until the young are old enough to begin feeding themselves. They use millipedes in their nests, and it is thought that secretions from the insects might help protect the mother and young from bacteria. Unlike its cousins, the yellow-billed hornbill does not have a large casque over its bill. A casque is hard cartilage that protects like a helmet.

Scientific Name
Tockus flavirostris

Lifespan
Up to 20 or so years

Omnivore. Fruit, seeds, leaves, insects, small mammals, lizards and snakes.

Predators and Threats
Crowned eagles, leopards, chimpanzees, and humans.

Habitat
Unlike its forest cousins, this hornbill prefers dry and semi-arid areas of Sub-Saharan Africa. One species is found in Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia. Another is found mostly in South Africa.

Hello Carl,
What a beautiful image of this hornbill in its natural environment and colours. The composition and quality are superb! Congratulations on not having had to do any PP. It is fantastic. Makes me think of Jim Brandenburg, legendary environmentalist and nature photographer, saying "... no PP work. No messing around." - in fact he was a little more specific with mentioning a brand name. So, for me, no PP will always be the ideal which I often will not attain, though. VERY well done, once again, and best wishes.

NS: Ek is spyt omdat ek so afwesig is hier maar my tyd is nie my eie nie. Baie groete.

Hello Carl,
Love these special birds! You show this one with its great yellow bill so well perched on a thorny bush and against the blue sky. Lovely natural shot for which I thank you very much.
Kind regards
Anne

Hello Carl

Normally I find that blue sky BG is both trouble (being bland) and blessing (no chance of BG clutter). But here the beauty of the hornbill basking in good light just makes the sky irrelevant. Very nicely composed.
Thanks
Himanshu

Hello Carl,
I must admit I know absolutely nothing about this particular bird, but he sure looks like he could hold his own against any other bird in the neighborhood. What a massive head and bill he sports, I wouldn't want to get my finger caught up in that weapon.
You managed to capture him in a great pose which allows us to get a good look at his attractive plumage and unique features. Awesome shot!!
Ron
