|I suspect that this is a fairly young Brown-hooded Kingfisher. Halcyon albiventris.|
For those who know better, please rectify me.
I took this photo yesterday afternoon near the Magaliesburg mountain (Near Johannesburg/Pretoria in South Africa) while he/she? was sitting on a frame watching the water in the swimming pool.
If it is the Brown-hooded Kingfisher, then they -
eat: insects, fish,frogs,lizzards etc.
2 - 5 eggs in a hole.
20 - 22 cm 50 - 70 g

Sorry that I have been absent from TN for a while but it is work related issues. Within a month my life will be normal again, . . . I hope.

First I must tell you that I have found your beautiful gallery by the interest shown in my picture you posted today (March 2, 2014) criticize but after doing a full tour of your work. I hope to tell you as a regular companion TN, Steve.
Charming portrait of this young Halcyon albiventris. I like the pose of the bird turning his head back.
A hug from Argentina,
