[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
While in Costa Rica I had the opportunity to view many different types of hummingbirds. One day we visited an outside garden area that had feeders out to draw in the birds. I have never seen so many hummingbirds in my life, they were coming in from all parts of the forest.

This beautiful bird was one of my favorites, and was actually quite large. The Violet Sabrewing is common in the highlands, particularly in cloud forest and are considered "trapliners". This means that instead of being very territorial of a particular area, they prefer to circulate along a regular route visiting several flowers.

Hello Ron,
Excellent timing and excellent shot of this fantastşc bird in-flight.

How very cool is this Ron and we are neighbors..coincidence? A wonderful picture from your trip which I have yet to catch up on.

Hummingbirds are glorious to see and especially in flight. Stop action amazingly well done my buddy! It has most certainly made my day to have you as a neighbor. I am honored.

hi Ron,
i was going through your note and felt like i was there... seeing many Hummingbirds at the same place. but the fact is, i have not seen a single Hummingbird till today. may be, in future :)
this is an excellent shot while the tiny bird was in flight. except that over-exposed white region in the tail, the rest of the photograph is too good. even the catch-light is there in the eye! loved it.
tfs
have a nice weekend

Hi Ron,spectacular in flight capture,i wish to do the same me too one day...ehehe..great timing, great details and magnificent metallic colors of the plumage, very professional work,i like it! Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Ron, you are a magician, man! I'm tongue-tied!!
To tell you the truth, I've never seen such a sharp capture of a Hummingbird in hovering flight ever before. Everyone knows how fast those wings flutter in that position, and you have got one of them frozen, Marvellous!
Hats off to you!
And thanks a million for your encouraging remarks on my two recent pictures of Carpenter Bees. Those blighters never stay on a flower for more than 5 seconds and you have to take whatever comes your way in those split precious moments.
Regards.
Ram

Hello, this is so lovely and bright and clear. Excellent color and great DOF. What a great trip trip must have been to Costa Rica. Did you go on a photographic tour?
Have a great day,
Karen

Hello Ron
An excellent photo, not easy to obtain I am sure, perfectly frozen with high speed.
Good detail, background and exposure.
Good moment to capture with open wings.
regards yiannis

Beautiful capture. Your short exposure caught the details perfectly. Only area for improvement would be the overexposed white tail area - if you have this as a RAW file, you might be able to regain some detail by carefully postprocessing for highlights in Photoshop.

excellent timing. good lighting and clarity. wonderful species. tfs.

Hello Ron,
Fantastic sharp detailed photo of this hummingbird in flight. Taken from an excellent POV in a great composition. Very beautiful colours. A beauty!
Regards,
Peter

Hi Ron,

as i already wrote in another critique the other day, being able "to freeze" this bird species in flight is a truly remarkable achievement, given the frequency of their wings' beating.Wonderful animals with magnificent colours, here made in a very natural way.Top notch are also composition, POV and BG.

PS: in your trip in Costa Rica have you also visited Corcovado National Park?I have great memories of that place.

Hi Ron,

Great inflight shot. I know that you have to be very patient to take a decent shot of this nervous bird. The result is superb. My compliments.

Zeno

Hello Ron,
Again a wonderful species of birds. The colors, details and focus are great. This is a very nice species. You take a nice image from a perfect POV with excellent contrast against the dark green background. A wonderful catch, but difficult too.
Thanks for sharing!
Marius.
