[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This attractive little bird sat motionless for me on a twig as I took this shot. There were so many hummingbirds chasing each other and darting about, that I believe this guy was glad to take a break.

This fellow is one of the largest hummingbirds found in Costa Rica. The male is mostly green with a small purplish patch on it's throat and sports a straight bill. The female has pale underparts spotted heavily with green. Both sexes have a small white spot behind their eye. The female also carries a white stripe below her eyes.

This particular species likes to perch instead of hovering over flowers while feeding. They can be found in humid highland forested areas.

Hello Ron

The metallic green color tones of its plumage
it is giving a special charm to this species
of the hummingbirds, your POV and its eye-contact
are also contributing to that charm, TFS

Another truly interesting capture of this tiny prince with all the goodness of his
colorful gingerbread shield perfectly captured in a instantaneous exposure. 1/2500s seems fast enough to freeze the motion of this ever busy character. Good day Ron Warner ...Greetings from the cold ( it's a Winter here ) South Africa, take care and please, keep on taking Great Pictures like this one!

Hi Ron, you captured the metallic colours very well. You are very fortunate, it is not often that a hummingbird poses for a photo like this. TFS Deon.
