[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this photo the same day I found the Cecropia Moth Caterpillar. There were about a dozen of these pretty little dragonflies perching along the edge of a small pond.

I sat still until this particular fellow decided to land right at my feet. I was using my 400MM lens at the time, because I was actually trying to capture a photo of a Green Heron. I had to very slowly back up to get him in focus and quickly snapped his picture.

The Eastern Amberwing is one of the smallest dragonflies in North America. I noticed they didn't seem to be particularly fast fliers when compared to other dragonflies I have observed.

They normally perch horizontally and are considered wasp mimics. While perching they often move their wings and abdomen up and down in a wasplike manner.

I will post another shot in the Workshop

Have a nice week,

Hello Ron,
As usual a wonderful photo with a nice dragonfly species. The focus, exposure and WB are perfect. It is a great composition. I like very much the blurry background around the dragonfly.
Have a nice week! Thanks for sharing!

hi Ron,
you managed one? good! and an excellent take. i liked the workshop one more. cute pose :)
but photography-wise, yes this was is better. excellent DoF and a matching BG :)
wish that perch was not that much burnt... otherwise, the rest of the photograph is just flawless!
can't that perch be selected and then the exposure be reduced? just asking. am very poor in editing. learning. otherwise would have shown :)

Hello Ron,
A fantastic capture with explicit sharp detail. Beautiful colours and your POV was perfect showing the Dragonfly with it's wings full in view with good contrast to the OOF BG. Perfect, just perfect my friend.
Best regards,

Ron ron ron Ron ron ron RON! OH MY GOSh how did i miss this????? MY FAVORITE UPON ALL FAVORITES!! oh wow what a glorious shot and LOVE the note to boot! OK time to check out your workshop! Aren't you just tickled with the outcome?? Goes to show you, all we have to be is "ready and available" and know to "back up" LOL GREAT SHOT my friend. Till this day i still haven't seen one of these! TFS!!

Oh RON he is smiling at you in the workshop post!!! LOL

An aptly named dragonfly, Ron, and beautifully illustrated through this well managed shot taken with the 'wrong' lens.
I too end up using wrong lens frequently. The other day, I was shooting butterflies with my 105mm macro lens. Suddenly, a small bird that goes by the name of Tailor Bird landed near me. I quickly aimed at it and took two shots in succession. Needless to say, both shots were useless.
I enjoyed looking at your Workshop picture.
