[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Further to my last post from Yellowstone, i wanted to now post something the park is more famously associated with - it's geothermal features. They are quite simply sublime. Bacteria grow around many of the hot pools such as this, feeding off the minerals that are released by the super heated acidic water that comes from far underground (sometimes miles) before working it's way through weaker rocks and faults in the rocks structure itself. I have over simplified this process a bit, but thats about the jist of it!
Anyway, this was taken right by the shore of Lake Yellowstone at West Thumb Geyser Basin. It is one of the smaller areas of geothermal interest in the park but it's location right by the shores of the largest high altitude lake in North America makes it well worth visiting. The colours here were astonishing...

Hello Paul,
Fascinating photo of this Geyser Basin. Splendid clarity, colours, superb sharpness, DOF and an attractive composition.

Ciao Paul, only the trees on BG remember us that we are in our earth, fantastic show of colors, like an extraterrestral landscape, excellent clarity and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Definitely need to visit our National Parks!! This is so fascinating and that aqua color and steam captured..sensational!

Hi Paul,
what an interesting photo! Amazing warm colours. Perfect sharpness and details. Nice composition.
Thanks for sharing,

Hello Paul,
This is fantastic - the steam coming up from the clear water, the pigmentation of oxide and hydroxide of iron and other minerals - in beautiful colours .... and below lurks a huge magma pool that is bound to cause a supervolcanic eruption that will wipe out life over large parts of the Earth. The United States Geological Survey is monitoring every centimetre of movement and it seems such a disaster is not quite imminent. May we not have a huge surprise soon. Well done Paul. A thought provoking note too.

Very very good. It is like 3D picture. Excellent work. Congratulation and thanks for sharing it. Saludos.

Captured the colors and richness almost perfectly, and yet it proves to me once again that no photo can take away the sense of awe when experiencing these great views in person.

Amazing scenery and fantastic photo Paul! The composition, the colours and the sharpness are excellent!!

Hello Paul

Fantastic picture Paul with those unique bacteria produced colours especially the turquoise blue of the water. The curving of the horizon gives the composition a special effect.
