On saturday Lucy and I went on a Polar Bear safari to Churchill, Manitoba. This was our first opportunity to see Polar Bears in their natural habitat. The 10 bears we saw are waiting for the sea ice to form so they can head out to catch their main prey Ring Seals. These bears that weighed between 600 & 800 pounds will almost double their weight by the time they come off the ice in July. This was an amazing experience to see these giant carnivores interacting at close range.

Hello Rick
Amazing scene and impressive photo with very good composition, wonderful soft lighting and impressive sharpness!

Hi Rick
Wow, excellent capture of these two Canadian Icons in actions. Their light coloured coats against the dark shrubs make for a nice contrast. Beautifully composed, even the snowflakes show up.

Hallo Rick
Thanks for sharing a great image of these two Polar Bears in their natural habitat. I do not know what I will do or how I will react when I come across these huge animals in real life as I am sure it must be a thrilling experience. As I know I will never have the opportunity to meet with them I am so grateful for photographers like you that share these photos as well as your experiences you and Lucy have with them with us in the comfort of our own homes. Best regards.

Hi Rick,

I was just at the beginning stay of planing a trip to Alaska, hopefully in July, so was just checking in to see if there is anything interesting photos from there. I saw a few of yours, they are very nice. Sorry not time to comment on them all.

This one is really nice with the two playing with great energy. Hope all is well. Will check in again later.

My dear friend,
What an irony - having to wait for the ice to built and in the meantime a little tussle for training ;-)

They are my favorite animals, after I had to watch as a six year old a Russian soldier from the occupying army shoot a Polar Bear in the Vienna Zoo, because it had bitten off the arm of a little girl which had climbed the balustrade.... I can never view a photo of a Polar Bear without remembering the poor bear slain.....

Thanks for sharing your work, and I added your photo to my theme "animal Behaviour"

Greetings from the Tzaneen Dam, Limpopo
