|This is from a trial shot with my new used Nikon 300mm f/4 ED lens, which arrived just before dusk and I rushed out to test. This is a crop from a tiny section of the full frame - perhaps 1/10 of the full width of the 16 mp frame of my D7000. I thought I'd post it for anyone interested in this lens' performance.|
If this is what it does wide open at ISO 1100 in bad light, I can't wait to get out with it in proper lighting conditions, stopped down a couple of stops.

Beautiful photo with fine frontal POV and
eye-contact of the bird, excellent composition
in bad light condition as you wrote, TFS

Hi Alan,a good esperiment whit your camera, perfect talking about exposure and colors but not in the details that seems a bit poor, but it wasn't easy to make better in this light and from a big distance as you write.About my pic,the heron was not taking off, but it was a strange dance trying to move the fish, really curious..ehehe...have a nice day and thanks,Luciano
Lovely capture with a good clarity and a beautiful composition.
