Hydrotaea diabolus, a very common fly inthe family muscidae. Here a female on ivy flowers. The maggots live in manure and rotting organic material.
The species was first described by Moses Harris (1730-1788) in 1780 under the name Musca diabolus. Harris was a typical product of the enlightenment

I know your main subject is the common fly but my attention is been drawn to the beautiful ivy flowers. The details of the flower is very eye-catching, especially that of the anthers. I also like the combination of colours very much. On the fly itself, I find the clarity of the big red eye worthy to mention. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
