ADDENDUM found out the name has been officially changed
from MOORHEN to COMMON GALLINULE ( here is the link for name change )

Went through my archives to find this bird. Remember keenly this one day many people jogging on by, chatting and not even stopping to view this beautiful species

Gallinula galeata
"A medium-sized, ground-dwelling water, the striking moorhen is among the world’s most widespread bird species, being found in many wetlands across the globe. It is easily recognised by its vivid red shield and short, yellow bill"

Enjoy this video I made of her, she can be quite vocal with all her clucks and chatter. I call this one "her" not because she is so vocal, lol, rather the male and female adult birds are similar in appearance, although the female is typically slightly larger.

The juvenile bird has a brown to grey crown, neck and back, while the underparts are paler than those of the adult bird, with a whitish throat and belly. Found one the other day feeding and you can spy him on my blog here. my blog

Here is the video of her feeding, and later her chick common morehen feeding (be sure to change to HD on wheel in youtube for best viewing)

Hi Brenda
Neighbors today!
Nicely composed photo of the moorhen , exposure or contrast is perhaps a bit too high as some detail in the beak and feathers is lost.
I also find your video very informative.
We have them here too. Such a lovely bird , pity it is called common.
I will visit your blog to see more.

Hi Brenda,
nice bird in water environment. Very good presentation. Nice point of view.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Brenda
There not much of a difference the US and the Australian variety. Maybe the legs, they are orange in Australia. Nice close up from a good POV, well composed. A little burn on the hi-light.
Thanks for sharing
Best wishes

Hi Brenda, very nice capture of this gallinula,a curious perspective and magnificent plumage details, very good exposure and colors too. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello Brenda,
A beautiful bird, and one I have never had the pleasure to see in the wild. I love the contrasting colors in it's plumage as well as it's colorful bill. I also noticed how large it's feet seem to be.
Loved your video, especially the part where the mother is feeding her chick. Super job!!
PS. Did a WS to see if I could get back a little of the detail lost, due to the harsh sun you had to deal with.
