Hello friends, I know my case
is pathetic, I am doing bird
photography with a portrait lens !

Here my lens is fully zoomed 50mm
(35mm eq:75mm) with 50% of cropping and
the Owl is still small in the photo !

This is the Great Gray Owl of my
previous posting before taking
his flight, he was perched on
that dead tree like an sentinel
but he was in hunting mode.

As I wrote yesterday I was hoping
he will fly from the good direction
for in-flight shots and when he passed
almost over my head my hands start to
shake while I was clicking the photos.

1/4000s f/8.0 (photo shot
in Aperture mode), ISO640,
50mm (35mm eq:75mm) and
50% of cropping.

from Canadian Museum of Nature website

« The Great Gray Owl can be found in
boreal forests across the northern hemisphere.
In North America, they can be found from Alaska
to Quebec. This owl's range extends into the
United States, into the alpine forests of the west. »

Ciao Asbed, great capture of lovely owl in fantastic sentinel pose, excellent clarity, splendid light and wonderful colors, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hi Asbed,
interesting place where the owl landed. Nice composition. Great presentation. Nice blue sky.
Thanks for sharing,

Hello Asbed.
Stunning simplicity in this shot. That tall pole and the owl on it is excellent against the blue sky.
Thanks and kind regards.

Hello Asbed,
fine shot of this owl looking for what's going on in its hunting grounds. I like your perspective and the eye contact. Good sharpness and natural colours.
Best wishes,

Hi Asbed,a bit distant but in a very nice minimalistic compostion, the light is beautiful this time too, perfect to warm the colors of owl and to create the best contrast whit the blue sky, great details too.Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Asbed,
Great colors and pose, but I feel the owl's too small compared to the frame size. In my opinion you might crop the original image more, and not changing the size of the cropped area. In this case the new image probably has just a little bigger size than 800x600, but without loosing quality. My workshop demonstrates the idea, although I obviously didn't change the size so it looks like a postage stamp. However, I hope you'll like it.
Best regards, László

Hello Asbed,
Nice catch with excellent clarity and very good eye contact, lovely composition with blue sky on backdrop.
Thanks and best regards,

Hello Asbed,
Beautiful picture of this Owl.But he/she looks very grumpy!!!!May be you haven't taken permission,so!!!!
Today you have placed the subject little bit far and its looking not bad at all.You have great sense on photography,so you have kept green trees and dry trees in right side.In left side BG you have kept a dry looking tree and THESE things made this photograph a brilliant look.It seems you have stolen a piece of beauty from the lap of mother nature.I like it.

Thanks for sharing,
Kind regards,

Hi Asbed,
Nice photo in nice colours but too small.
Regards Jiri.

Interesting to see a part of the habitat and the behaviour of this impressive bird Asbed! Beautiful photo with interesting composition, fantastic colors and very good sharpness.

Hi Asbed
Don't worry about the lens you use, you can always be creative by adding something in the background to make it interesting. The dead tree with the great grey owl on top makes this image just right.
