Thanks for all the nice comments of my previous post.

This Common Pochard is taken at the same time and place as yesterday's post.
I took this with a 300mm and a 1.7x converter, not the best combo for Inflight. :-)
But it turned out pretty good, Common Pochards are very fast fliers.
This is a rather funny bird, in a flock of Common Pochards there is usually one female with 6-10 males busy courting the female.

Some info from Wikipedia.
The Common Pochard (Aythya ferina) is a medium-sized diving duck. The adult male has a long dark bill with a grey band, a red head and neck, a black breast, red eyes and a grey back. The adult female has a brown head and body and a narrower grey bill-band. The triangular head shape is distinctive. Pochards are superficially similar to the closely related North American Redhead and Canvasback.
Their breeding habitat is marshes and lakes with a metre or more water depth. Pochards breed in much of temperate and northern Europe into Asia. They are migratory, and winter in the southern and west of Europe. These are gregarious birds, forming large flocks in winter, often mixed with other diving ducks such as Tufted Duck, with which they are known to hybridise. These birds feed mainly by diving or dabbling. They eat aquatic plants with some molluscs, aquatic insects and small fish. They often feed at night, and will up-end for food as well as the more characteristic diving.

Hello Gert

You are the master of the ducks and geese
in-flight photos, you are showing once again
your art by this superb close-up shot of the
Common Pochard in its high speed flight,
with great focus, sharpness, and details.

Talking about your lens equipment of 300mm and
the 1.7x converter, this passed winter I was
at the Great Gray Owl photo, and one time the
Owl it passed almost over my head, at my left
they was a photographer with his D300s + 300mm
and + a 1.4x converter, when the Owl it passed
almost over our heads, with my short focal
length lens having a large field angle I had
the photo, that guy also had the photo, but he
told me that the wings where cut because the
Great Gray Owl it passed very close to us.

Hello Gert,
High quality in all aspects. Fantastic sharpness, details and splendid natural colours. A pity that there is a sign of PP above the head. I think for blurring the background. But the photo is brilliant.
Regards,
Peter
