Class: Insecta

Order: Lepidoptera

Superfamily: Papilionoidea

Family: Nymphalidae

Genus: Issoria

Species: I. lathonia

The Queen of Spain Fritillary (Issoria lathonia) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is common in southern Europe, migrating as far north as south Scandinavia every summer. It is a very rare visitor to the British Isles. Heat-dependent, this species is found breeding on the hottest places of the foodplants of the larvae (prefers Viola tricolor and Viola arvensis). The adult is a strong flyer, and may be found anywhere but forests.
The eggs of this species are laid on the Wild Pansy ( Viola tricolor).

Hello Luciano,

Lovely contrast between the greenery, knapweed, and finely saturated colors of the Queen in perfect profiled position and with professional sharpness throughout. The composition well shows us the terrain and preferred flora of this species and thus as educational as it is artistic. Very well engineered and executed!

Beautiful photo and great photo Luciano! Good composition, fantastic colours and impressive sharpness.

Bonsoir Luciano,
