Pygmy Grasshopper:-I have captured this tiny specie(very difficult to find out)in our yard. Its very tough to go closer. They jump long and its enough to lose its visibility.I know picture not well. But to me its a new specie. So posting here in TN.

Scientific Classification:
Kingdom:Animalia
Phylum:Arthropoda
Class:Insecta
Order:Orthoptera
Suborder:Caelifera
Superfamily:Tetrigoidea
Family:Tetrigidae

Pygmy Grasshoppers are less than 20mm in length, and are recognizable by a long pronotum, that extends over the length of the abdomen, sometime to the tip of the wings, and ends in a point. In other Orthoptera, the pronotum is shaort and covers neither the abdomen nor the wings.Terigidae are generally cryptic in coloration. Some species have enlarged pronota that mimic leaves, stones or twigs.

Roughly 1600 species have been described in about 250 genera altogether.

Thanks for viewing,
Kind regards,
Srikumar

Hello Srikumar,
Not one of your best, but a nice photo of this Pygmy Grasshopper, I think a bit oversharpened. Natural colours and taken from a nice POV. The result of post processing is visble around the antennae. The background is a bit distracking.
Regards,
Peter

Srikumar,

I don't think this is a Pygmy Grasshopper, but a nymphal hopper. Pygmy GH have the pronotum extended to or beyond the tip of the abdomen. Thanks for posting. Peter gave an accurate critique.

Hi Srikumar,
A very nice close-up of this interesting and nasty grasshopper.
Good details and colours.
Regards Jiri.

Hi Srikumar,

The vegetation is helping to frame the insect. The point of view is showing the details and colours of the Pygmy Grasshopper. It is clear and precise. The good luminosity is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.
