Hi all,
This is Pheasant-tailed Jacana (Hydrophasianus chirurgus), which is a jacana in the monotypic genus Hydrophasianus. Jacanas are a group of waders in the family Jacanidae that are identifiable by their huge feet and claws which enable them to walk on floating vegetation in shallow lakes, their preferred habitat. The Pheasant-tailed Jacana is capable of swimming, although it usually walks on the vegetation. The females are more colourful than the males and are polyandrous.

The thought process behind this shot:

We saw these Jacana's hopping and walking from one
lotus leaf to another! I sensed an opportunity to get some action shots. Immediately I changed the the ISO to 400 to get a faster shutter speed and panned the camera where ever the bird moved with continuous focus tracking.. when the bird moved or was about take off.. just pressed the shutter ... the camera's 5 frames per second did the trick and i got some decent take off shots.

Hope you people will like it

wow, amazing take off, TFS Ori

Goutham, can take a year off and go back to TN after 365 days!
Ha, ha, ha! Because this photograph justify a year of work, man! How wonderful focus on raising the bird flight, with drops of water still in the air, not to mention a background of lotus ... Wonderful.

A great job!

Very good take-off picture. Very sharp all the way.
Would be even better with some more space to the right,
but great!
