[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I posted a female Splendid Fairy-Wren (Malurus splendens)a few months ago. This is a male in eclipse plumage. I have still to take a photo of a male in full breeding plumage where all the brown/grey areas are changed into the most brilliant violet-blue colour.
These small and endearing birds are common from the west of the Blue Mountains to the Indian Ocean. They forage in family groups, often in the company of other small species, probably as a defense against predators. They can live for more than 10 years, which is remarkable given their small size.
This time, I used shutter speed priority to get a sharp enough photo with the hand-held lens . One does learn from previous mistakes!

Odile,
What an ADORABLE species.
We don't enjoy their company in Canada. How lucky you are. Often wished I'd live in Australia. My most beloved brother passed in Perth a few years ago.
A very clear presentation, indeed!!!
Great notes too.
Mario from a COLD COLD Canada wishing you the best of the best.
