Big and mean
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|You know when something big and mean is around when the bush becomes very still and silent. This magnificent Brown Goshawk (Accipiter fasciatus) visited our block yesterday. It was absolutely fearless and stayed around for a good half an hour. |
It is a common bird of prey in Australia inhabiting all states and also found in Papua New Guinea. The long yellow legs, yellow eyes, finely barred chest and heavy brow are characteristic of the species. Its wingspan can reach 1 metre. An impressive bird that I am very happy to have 'captured' in photo only.
Another of my hand-held efforts with the large 150-500 mm Sigma lens.

very nice capture of the hawk The strong expression of the yes and stance really make this shot an attractive one. The stripes of the feathers and nice blurry background make it so pleasant.
Well presented shot.
