Today shot from my aquarium. This one looks like fishes from deep ocean - with these scary fangs, transparent body and weird shape. Don't be afraid :-) There's no cause to fear - this 'monster' is about 10 millimetres long and 1 millimetre high. Yesterday I started to experiment with some old lenses. I took Helios lens from my old analog cam - Russian Zenit 12XP and tried to make some close-ups. This is best what I did after few minutes. In this extreme close-ups it is almost impossible to take sharp image with proper DOF, but I'll try ;-)

On my photo you can see front part of Mochlonyx sp. known in English as Phantom Midge Larva. Big eyes and mouth part show us that they're predators. They eat little plankton animals like Daphnias or Cyclops.

Technique:
Handheld Canon S2, reversed Helios lens, load of sun, patience and luck ;-)

If you want to see really great pictures taken with reversed lenses take a look at Mike [Fisher] work with jumping spiders and Aleksander [Graal] worlds reflected in dew.

Seems you indeed had loads of fun Greg! You've achieved some impressive magnification here. I think it's around 10 times lifesize? Thanks for posting this interesting experiment!

Witaj,
pokazujesz niesamowite żyj±tka z głębi mórz. Brawo za eksperymenty, obiekt prawie mikroskopowy.
Pozdr. Al.

Even though the focus is soft I know how difficult this is Greg. It's interesting and I think you should not give this type of photos up. Well done.

Cześć,

Znakomite zdjęcie, bez binokularu trudno zrobić coś podobnego. Chyba też muszę spróbować pobawić się starym obiektywem od Praktiki...

Great Macor Greg, very interesting as always.
Well done.
TFS.

Hi Greg
A really interesting and unusual macro. You had a good idea
to use this old lens because the resulte is really good.
Well done
Cheers
Quentin

Wow. At that magnification, I'm surprised there is any DOF at all ;-) Interesting shot. It does look like a deep sea creature.

Regards,

Tom

I find the quantity of information achieved in the shot good, quite a lot of details shown, and even got a artistic point too! Very well done, I guess you where patient this time.
Did you receive the photo I sent about "Lodz square". Regards, Felipe.

WOW! What a great shot, Greg!
As i said, all the pictures from this theme are fascinating.
But i probably like this better because of the ingenious tehnique with the Helios lens. I wish i had one to use with my S2 :)
BRAVOOO and TFS
Horia

Gregory,
Very interesting indeed.
Please continue working with your old lens; and, share with us all these 'goodies'.
I love to learn new stuff.
Great photography too.
Best regards from Canada from Mario.
