Camptopus lateralis (Germar, 1817). Nymph

Camptopus lateralis is a bug in the family Alydidae (Order Hemiptera). The adult is 12-15 mm long with dark brown coloration. It is not very visible until it takes to the air, flashing its bright orange abdomen.
The ant mimicking nymph is very distinctive.

Camptopus lateralis is found in southern Europe, the Mediterranean and western Asia. In Cyprus it is a common and widespread species.

Hello Christodoulos,
What an amazing creature! Yes, the resemblance with ants is striking. Excellent shot, original posting.
un grand merci!

Hi Chris, my neighbour in the gallery today,
Fantastic macro shot with amazing aharpness and details on the insect. A good photo, but probably not your best due to the overexposure / lost details detected on some small parts. But everything else is really impressive, and I'm glad you returned to the site. Welcome back!
Regards, László

Hello Christodoulos,
What an awesome looking macro you have displayed. The body features of this tiny nymph really does look similar to that of an ant. Your choice of an f/13 aperture resulted in some excellent DOF and the exposure is right on the money. Great job!!

Hi Christodoulos.
Shapes of the insect and flower are very special and attractive. Direct POV is great and gives a nice idea about pictured subject. Colour palette of the shot is fine and (as you have written) natural. Perfect use of long telelens for close-up shooting. Warm regards and best wishes.
Alexei.

Ciao Christodoulos. Just a professional close up! Well done.
