[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I had captured this Hipo's(with an Oxpecker) picture at Lower Sabie;Kruger National Park.

Hippos are the 3rd largest mammals on land.

Hippos kill more people than any animal in Africa. They are extremely aggressive and territorial, and will attack anything that ventures into their stretch of River, including boats. When on land, they will run for the water if alarmed, and anything that gets in their way will be attacked, humans included.
I heard a tale from a safari guide about an American woman who approached a grazing hippo, despite warning of the danger, and tried to take its photo. The flash startled the animal, and its immidiate response was to attack-the woman was bitten in half, literally.

It is little known fact that Harbivores kill more people than Carnivores, world wide, every year. After Hippos, the most dangerous animals in Africa are Buffalo and Elephants. All these animals are Harbivores.

No-one would dream of going up to a wild leopard or Lion and trying to touch it,even though the chances of injury are far less(Leopards,Lions and most other carnivores will run from humans on foot)-many people are simply uneducated about "WILD LIFE",and accord harbivores less respect than carnivores.

Attractive photo of this hippo with an oxpecker. Excellent sharpness and beautiful natural colours.

Ciso Srikumar, great capture of superb creature, really a giant, beautiful ambientation, fine details, wonderful natural colors and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Thanks, both, for the image, and your HIGHLY EDUCATIVE NOTE!!!
This image is so well focused that one can distinguish, CLEARLY, the ox pecker eating the insects on the hippo's back.
It's a superb presentation.
All natural colours.
Best regards from

Good clear shot of one of these dnagerous beasts. Your note is right on the money - they are dangerous, and much faster than they look if they become aggressive.
