A delightful surprise when I woke up on the beach towel lying on the balcony to dry .....

Class: Insecta
Order: Mantodea
Family: Mantidae
Subfamily:Mantinae
Tribe: Mantini
Genus: Mantis
Species:M. religiosa

Mantis religiosa, referred to as the European mantis outside of Europe and known simply as the praying mantis in Europe and elsewhere, is one of the most well-known and widespread species of the order Mantodea.
Originating in southern Europe, the European mantis was introduced to North America in 1899 on a shipment of nursery plants. Now they are found all over the north-eastern United States and Canada to the Pacific Northwest. The European mantis is usually 5–7.5 cm (2–3 inches) in length, and has shades of bright green to tan. It can be distinguished easily by a black-ringed spot beneath the fore coxae. It is one of several different insects for which a name used within Europe to refer to only a single insect species (in this case, "praying mantis") has become adopted throughout the globe to refer to the larger group of insects to which that one species belongs (e.g., compare "hornet" to European hornet, or "wasp" to common wasp).
Found in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America (introduced).

SALVE!

SUPERB detailed image with excellent pose cptured.Wonderful expression.

Salve Luciano,
stunningly powerful portrait of a mantis in eye contact. I love the close and direct approach, achieving high impact and drama by strictly reducing the image to the essence, and its refreshingly lively colours. A pleasure to see! With Thanks, and best regards,
Peter

Complimenti!

Razor sharp on the eyes, and the towel does not distract from the interesting colours. A nice macro and well done for taking this opportunity.

Effectivement Luciano,

Ciao Luciano,
I don't know how I missed this superb shot. Excellent image in your unmistakable style. Very good sharpness, proper flash usage, nice color tones, original PoV... and what a composition with the "welcome pose"! I also love (besides many more elements) how the antennae are forming 2 semi-diagonal lines. Bombastic photo! Bravo!
Best regards, László
