The lily pond in my school is a veritable bio-diversity spot these days. Lilies are in bloom and there is a whole lot of winged insects doing different things such as mating, shedding exuvia or just flying around for fun.Coromandel Marsh Dart is a resident damselfly in the pond and so are the dragonflies such as Scarlet Skimmer and Slender Skimmer. The other day, I noticed a very slim and long damselfly perching motionless on a lily bud. I took several pictures of it and here is one of them. It took me some time to identify it.

Aciagrion approximans (Selys, 1876)

The species has a wide distribution within suitable habitats in India, and occurs in large numbers in some areas. The species is unlikely to be undergoing significant declines at present and is assessed as Least Concern.

The species is known from eastern India: Manipur, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh. It should be looked for in Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar. I found it in north-western India.

This species breeds both in streams and stagnant pools.

Hello Professor Ram Thakur,
The damsel fly is not well focused; however, I love this composition.
Looks like LIGHT is pouring out of that Lilly bud.
Presented with taste & class.
Loved your notes too.
Best regards from Mario in Canada.

Hello Ram

Very nice presentation of this damsel fly, the sharpness is light and the details are soft. I suppose that BG color weakened the clarity of image. I like the way presented.

Hi Ram
Lovely picture. The lily bud looks as if somebody had put a light inside it.The damselfly is beautiful. Congrats.

With warm regards

Ciao Ram, lovely composition with elegant damselfly, fine details, excellent clarity, fantastic light and wonderful colors, very well done, my friend, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Dear Ram,
this is a very elegant and emotionally appealing presentation of a fragile damselfly resting on a flower bud that is starting to open. In addition to being a well detailed naturalistic presentation of a precisely identified insect, the image is a message of tenderness and optimism in appreciation of the silent beauties of life. Thank you! With best regards,

Hello Ram,
Another poetical picture from you. I like so much the finesse of the composition, the subtle tints too. Sharpness is not perfect , but here it has no importance, your shot appears rather like a painting. Lovely!
Kind regards
