[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Epidendrum sp. or Crucifix Orchid.
The genus originates from the Americas with many species brought into cultivation. This particular specimen may be E. ibaguense, or a cultivar. The flowers are bunched at the end of a tall (>1.5 m) reed and a few flowers open up every few days over several weeks.
This plant has been growing under shade cloth for many years now, planted directly in the soil. Seems to like the Mediterranean climate, but appreciates watering in the heat of summer. Easy to propagate: wait for aerial roots to develop, cut just underneath and put in the ground.
